It looks like Yellowstone will start to get back to normal after the 2022 floods devastated much of the northern part of the park, causing road closures and several campgrounds to be closed for much of the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Mammoth campground is expected to re-open in the spring after being closed for almost two years. Three other National Park Service Campgrounds will be closed this summer – Norris, Pebble Creek and Tower Fall. You can check out our camper’s guide to Yellowstone here.
Mammoth Campground
For 2024, Mammoth campground is expected to re-open in the spring (dates TBD) after the flooding damaged the wastewater line that ran from Mammoth to Gardiner, MT. A line is being run to the new water treatment plant in Mammoth which will enable the popular year-round campground to resume operation.
Pebble Creek Campground
Pebble Creek campground was severely damaged by the floods due to its close proximity to its namesake. Sites have several feet of rocks and dirt on them which is planned to be removed this summer and with luck we’ll see one of our favorites open again next summer.
Tower Fall Campground
Tower Fall campground is undergoing needed repairs and will be closed this summer, both to allow for repairs and make sites available to workers who are fixing the Northeast Entrance Road’s flood damage.
Norris Campground
Citing a higher level of day use in the Norris area and limited staff availability, Norris campground will also be closed for the summer of 2024.
